Meet Karl the Frog 🐸 Something Green from My LYS

Hello, Reader! A couple weeks ago while shopping at my LYS, I got lucky and caught 'Karl the Frog' in the making. At the time, he was just two bright green tubes on the back work bench at Fengari in Half Moon Bay, California.

Owner Kim McFall let me in on a little secret. The team was creating a full replica of the official 2026 Bay Area Yarn Crawl's mascot.

As soon as their display was revealed, I rushed back to see him in the window. And it's perfect timing to send you something green for St. Patrick’s Day. I couldn’t wait to share this little slice of my local knitting life here on the California coast.

The team created this full-size knitted replica that perfectly matches the original poster illustration by artist Dawn Kathryn (love her yarn stickers).

Isn't Karl adorable!?! His slouch, sweet smile, nifty knitted vest, all the way down to his khaki shorts. And check out his swanky fishing pond hangout complete with fish, log, and even a yarn ball holder. Bravo, Fengari Team!

Three Fun Facts

  1. “Frogging” in knitting terms means ripping out your work… Rip It, Rip It.
  2. Karl’s name is also a playful nod to our famous San Francisco fog, known locally as Karl the Fog.
  3. The Bay Area Yarn Crawl is comprised of 24 shops across the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Each shop will have their own games, prizes, trunk shows, designer meet & greets, and more!

'Karl the Frog' is now greeting visitors in Fengari’s Main Street window, looking very chill and welcoming. I hope you enjoy catching his good vibes, too!
